Steynshoop Mountain Lodge

Steynshoop Mountain Lodge is a luxury house on a private estate, beautifully situated on an elevated site in the scenic Magaliesberg valley near Hekpoort. It has superb views of the magnificent mountain range, cliffs and bush surroundings of the Magaliesberg Nature Reserve, of which it forms a part.

The lodge’s bedrooms are all en-suite and luxuriously appointed with air-conditioning, DSTV and DVD players.

Guests have access to a kilometer of the magnificent mountain range on the estate, for walks and hiking. Arrangements may be made for longer hikes over the adjoining extensive area owned by the Mountain Club of South Africa which includes famous sites such as the Castle Gorge (provided that they are accompanied by a guide from the lodge).

The entire estate is situated within the proclaimed Magaliesberg Nature Reserve. It is full of natural bush vegetation, including thousands of wild Protea trees, and has extensive natural game including bush buck, nyala, mountain reedbuck, warthogs, baboons, monkeys, and leopard.

Birdlife is extensive. There are frequent sightings of eagles and vultures from a nearby cliff colony. Jackal and Hyena cries, baboon barks and sounds of the surrounding wildlife are prolific.

Steynshoop Mountain Lodge provides the ideal break from city life and stress – drift off to the sounds of the African bush and awaken to a chorus of birds. Enjoy a quiet drink and look out for Nyala, bushbuck or mountain reedbuck coming to drink at the game waterhole, overlooked by the gazebo. Steynshoop Valley Lodge

Steynshoop weddings

Steynshoop Valley Lodge is a luxury, child-friendly, self-catering lodge, beautifully situated on an elevated site in the scenic Magaliesberg valley, near Hekpoort. It has superb views of the magnificent mountain range and of the valley.

There is an attractive homestead and a surrounding quadrangle of buildings which includes a walled kitchen garden and an antique Cape-style fowl run. The homestead has several large, safely fenced, adjoining water features and the overall ambiance is of an early Transvaal farmstead, in keeping with the history of the estate.

Steynshoop has a magnificent chapel and function hall and is an ideal setting for weddings. Many visitors to the Valley Lodge have commented on how beautiful the estate is and that it is the perfect setting for weddings. The chapel is thatched, traditionally styled, full of character and very pretty. It has a mezzanine section and can seat up to 150 people.

The large function hall is also thatched and is ideal for wedding receptions. There is a flat section of lawn between the chapel and the function hall, should a marquee / open tent be required. For smaller weddings, the pool-side thatched garden gazebo, with spectacular views of the Magaliesberg Valley over the dams, can be used for up to 80 people.

The Valley Lodge and its adjoining Mountain Lodge can accommodate up to 50 people overnight and they have extensive facilities to entertain your wedding group and to make their stay enjoyable and memorable. Accommodation can be either on a fully-catered or on a self-catering basis. Additional accommodation is available at nearby lodges if required.

The homestead has 5 bedrooms all en-suite. The 5 adjoining cottage units each have one bedroom. Three of the units have additional daybeds for children.

There are numerous sporting and recreation such as an all-weather floodlit tennis court, an “infinity”, safety fenced, swimming pool and a full-size billiard room. Additionally, there are volleyball, badminton and croquet facilities. There is a sports/entertainment area with an additional swimming pool, braai facilities and three thatched gazebos with large tables and benches/chairs.

It is ideal for individual and small group getaways, conferences and retreats, with a natural, peaceful and refreshing ambiance.
